A draft is a working copy of a page, so you can change things without your viewers seeing the work in progress. When you're happy with it, you can send it to your team for review, then merge it into "Latest".
When you create a release, it only includes what's in "Latest". Nothing you do in a draft goes out until you merge it, so there's no risk of releasing something half-finished.
How drafting works
A page moves through three states, and the coloured border around the page tells you where you are:
- Latest is the live version your viewers see.
- Draft mode is your working copy, outlined in blue.
- In review is a draft you've asked your team to look at, outlined in amber.
Review is optional. If you'd rather merge straight from a draft without asking anyone, you can.
Create a draft
Drafts are shared, not personal. Any editor can open the same draft and contribute, and everyone who helped is credited on the page when it's merged. If a teammate edits while you're in there, you'll be prompted to refresh and pick up their changes — the same as editing "Latest".
- Open the page you want to change and click Create draft.
- You're now in the draft. The label changes to Draft mode and the page picks up a blue border, so you can always tell you're not editing "Latest".
- Edit the page as you normally would. Everything saves automatically, and none of it reaches your viewers until you merge.
👉 Note: While a page has an open draft, you can't edit it in "Latest". Merge or discard the draft to unlock it again.
Send a draft for review
If you'd like a second pair of eyes before your changes go live, you can ask your teammates to take a look.
- In your draft, click Review and merge.
- The Review and merge window lets you merge straight away, or pick people to review first.
- Tick the teammates you'd like to review the page. Anyone with review access or editor access to the styleguide can be a reviewer — if someone's missing from the list, use the invite link to add them to the styleguide first.
- Pick as many reviewers as you like. Request review becomes available once you've chosen someone.
- Click Request review. The label changes to In review and the page border turns amber.
What your reviewers see
Your reviewers get an email, and the request also shows up in their notification panel and on their dashboard.

Reviewers leave their feedback as comments on the page, exactly as they would anywhere else in zeroheight.
👉 Good to know: There's no approve or reject step. Comments are there to start a conversation, and they never block the merge — you decide when the draft is ready. You can also keep editing the draft while it's in review, and add more reviewers at any time from the In review menu.
Take a draft out of review
Changed your mind, or need to do more work before anyone looks? You can move the draft back to editing.
- Open the In review menu and choose Revert status to draft.
- Find Revert status to draft in the In review menu.
- Confirm. The draft goes back to Draft mode and the current review request is cancelled.
- Reverting cancels the review request, so you'll need to ask again when you're ready.
Merge a draft into Latest
When the draft is ready to go live:
- Click Merge. From a draft that's in review, Merge sits right next to the In review label. From a draft you haven't sent for review, click Review and merge and then Merge.
- Confirm the merge.
- Confirm to copy your draft's changes into "Latest".
- Your changes are now live in "Latest", the draft closes, and the page unlocks for editing again. They'll be included the next time you create a release.
👉 Note: Merging can't be undone, and you can't reopen a merged draft. If you want to keep working on something, do it before you merge.
Discard a draft
If you don't want to keep a draft's changes at all:
- Open the Draft mode menu and choose Discard draft. You can do this whether or not the draft is in review.
- Choose Discard draft from the Draft mode menu.
- Confirm. The draft and its changes are deleted, "Latest" stays exactly as it was, and the page unlocks for editing again.

FAQs
Who can create a draft?
Editors on the Enterprise plan can create drafts.
Do I have to use drafts?
No. Drafting is optional — you can still edit a page directly in "Latest" as before.
Do I have to get a draft reviewed?
No. You can merge straight from your draft without asking anyone to review it.
Who can I request a review from?
Anyone with review access or editor access to the styleguide. If someone isn't in the list, invite them to the styleguide first.
What's the difference between review access and editor access?
Review access is the lighter of the two — it lets someone comment on your pages without editing them. Editors can do both.
How will my reviewers know?
They'll get an email, and the request appears in their notification panel and on their dashboard.
Can reviewers approve or reject a draft?
No. Reviewers leave comments, and nothing they do blocks the merge. You decide when to merge.
Can I add more reviewers after I've asked?
Yes. Open the In review menu and choose Request review again.
Can I edit a draft while it's in review?
Yes, and it stays in review while you do.
Can I discard a draft that's in review?
Yes. Discard draft works the same whether or not the draft is in review.
Can a page have more than one draft at a time?
No. A page can have one draft at a time, whether it's in editing or in review. Merge or discard the current draft before starting a new one.
Can I edit Latest while a draft exists?
No. While a page has an open draft, it's locked in "Latest". Merge the draft to apply your changes, or discard it to leave "Latest" as it is. Either one unlocks the page again.
Can more than one person work on a draft?
Yes. A draft is shared across editors, and anyone with edit access can contribute.
Do my viewers see drafts?
No. Drafts are only visible to editors and reviewers, whether they're in editing or in review. Your viewers keep seeing your default release.
Will a draft be included when I create a release?
No. A release is a snapshot of "Latest" only, so nothing in a draft is included — even if it's in review. Merge the draft first if you want the changes in a release.
Can I create a draft of any page?
You can draft standard pages and category or subcategory overview pages. Cover pages and hero content can't be drafted.
What happens to comments on drafts?
Comments are copied into a draft when it's created, and merged back into the "Latest" version of the page when the draft is merged or discarded. Review feedback lives in those same comment threads, so your reviewers' comments come back with everything else.
What happens to my drafts if my plan changes?
If your workspace moves off the Enterprise plan, existing drafts are locked. You can't keep editing them, but you can still merge or discard them.
Can I draft a synced page?
You can draft the original page. Pages that mirror it elsewhere keep showing the current "Latest" until your draft is merged, then update to the merged content.
